Belfast Belfast is the capital of and the largest city in Northern Ireland and the second largest city in Ireland. The city forms part of the largest urban area in Northern Ireland, and the main settlement in the province of Ulster. Belfast was granted city status in 1888.

Belfast is situated on Ireland's eastern coast. The city is flanked to the northwest by a series of hills, including Cavehill. Belfast is located at the western end of Belfast Lough and at the mouth of the River Lagan making it an ideal location for the shipbuilding industry.

Queen's University Belfast is often referred to simply as Queen's. The university was chartered in 1845, and opened in 1849 as "Queen's College, Belfast", but has roots going back to 1810 and the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. The University also forms the focal point of the Queen's Quarter area of the city, one of Belfast's seven cultural districts.

Belfast Zoo is one of the top fee-paying visitor attractions. Located in north Belfast, the zoo's 55-acre site is home to more than 1,200 animals and 140 species.

Belfast Botanic Gardens is a public park in Belfast, Northern Ireland.Occupying 28 acres of south Belfast, the gardens are popular with office workers, students and tourists. They are located on Stranmillis Road in Belfast's university area, with Queen's University nearby. The Ulster Museum is located at the main entrance.

The main circular Auditorium seats 2,241 and is based on the Berlin Philharmonic Hall designed by Hans Scharoun. However the flexible design of the Auditorium allows the stalls seating to be moved to create a larger arena. The smaller adjoining Studio seats 380. The dome of the building is coated in copper. This is so the exterior will eventually turn green and reflect the dome of Belfast City Hall and other Victorian buildings in the city centre.
