  Every nation and every country has its own customs and traditions. Great Britain is very different from our country. British people are very unusualand mysterious . The observation of traditions is a part of their lives. I would like to tell about the most unusual traditions and holidays.

  The British are very fond of antiques. Therefore, they prefer a house with a fireplace and a garden to an apartment with central heating. Traditionally the house of an Englishman is not high, but it has two floors. What’s more, every homeowner tries to put his own stamp on the housing, that is, to remake it in his own way, and so when he moves to a new location, it is just a must to destroy all signs of the former residence of the owner of the house. You simply must strip off everything in the house, where he has just moved, otherwise it is not your house.

  Most Britons like gardens in front of the houses, in the form of a lawn and flower beds. If you look at any English town with abird's-eye, you can see that the neighborhoods are composed almost entirely of rows of small boxes and near each there is its tiny green patch of land. The British love to grow flowers. Therefore, in May, they traditionally hold the most important festival Flowers and Gardens. Many people from all over the UK come to see Chelsea Flower Show and built gardens.

  The British are very fond of their pets, even more than the children. Life of pets in Britain is much better than in any other country, so they have thousands of organizations to protect animals. You must buy your pet only from pet shops . And of course, there are lots of traditional festivals and showsrelated to pets and their lovers . For example traditionally, every year in February Holiday a dogs’ show takes place in the city of Birmingham, where the best dog is awarded by the title of Kraft Supreme Champion.

  I was also struck by such an unusual event as "Pancake Day.It’s nothing similar to our festival Maslenitsa. Pancake Day is held in March, on the last day before Lent. On this day many events and activities take place: participants run, throw up a pancake in a frying pan and catch it. I think it's great fun!

  The second Saturday of June the Queen's Birthday is celebrated all over the country. On this day soldiers in colourful uniforms march solemnly through the streets of English cities. You can hear sounds of music everywhere. Queen rides in a rich- decorated carriage, and welcomes her people.

  Day of St. Swithin is celebrated on July 15.On this day the British observe the weather and say what the weather on Swithin day is, these will be another forty days. If it rains, the British believe that it is for consecrate apples.

  The brightest, most colorful Hottingen Hill Carnival is heldin the last week of August. Every street in London is full of people in bright costumes. From all sides you can hear sounds of African and Caribbean music.
