  Khatyn Tragedy

  Last summer I was in Belorussia. Our family visited the place called Khatyn. You can`t find this place on any map as this village was destroyed by German fascists in spring 1943. Almost all people, old and young, including women, babies, children were burned on fire. 149 people including 75 children were burned alive. Only two children and one adult survived in the village of Khatyn.

  It was 56-year-old Joseph Kaminsky. He found his son still alive among the dead villagers. The boy died later in the arms of his father. The only sculpture of the Khatyn memorial complex "The Unconquered Man" was based on this tragic story. I think the sounds of the bells symbolize the heartbeat of all the innocent people who were burnt alive there. You feel frightened and your eyes fill with tears of great sorrow for the victims of Khatyn.

  Memory

  The tragedy of Khatyn was not a single one. More than 100 Bellorussian villages were burned during the war. Many people were killed. We will remember! It must not happen again!
