  A hippie (or hippy) is a member of a subculture that was originally a youth movement that started in the United States during the mid-1960s and spread to other countries around the world. The term hippie was first popularized in San Francisco by Herb Caen who was a journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle.

  Emo broke into mainstream culture in the early 2000s. In the wake of this success, many emo bands were signed to major record labels and the style became a marketable product. Emo has been associated with a stereotype that includes being particularly emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, or angst-ridden.It has also been associated with stereotypes like depression, self-harm, and suicide.
