The history of Orenburg
Orenburg was founded as a fortress in 1735 at the Ural-Or confluence, where Orsk now stands. The city was originally the military centre of the Ural Cossacks.

An attempt was made to found another Orenburg at a location called Krasnogor, or “Red Hill”, in 1741, but this settlement failed.
